About Typ 356 Northeast

Porsche enthusiasts know that 1998 was one of the most significant years in Porsche’s history. Not only was it the 50’th anniversary of the Porsche Marque, but it was also the start of this new 356 club in the Northeast United States.

In June of 1998, Gary Resnick met with other 356 enthusiasts in the Boston area with the idea of starting a Porsche model 356-specific club to highlight these little "Tub" cars as the beginning of Porsche performance automobiles. He recruited seven other people who were also interested in starting a 356-specific club, and they got together in various people’s homes and outlined the club, its structure and its mission. Five months later, TYP356ne had 40 members and was well on the way to becoming a regional affiliate of the national 356 Registry and is included in the Registry's list of Local and Regional 356 Groups. Our membership is concentrated throughout the greater Boston area, but we have many active members throughout all of the New England states.

The core members that formalized the club in its first three years were:

After the first five months of preparation guided by Gary Resnick, the first club president was Fran DeLeo, who was elected by the membership for a two-year term starting in 1999. Following Fran, the following people have been elected as President of the TYP356ne club:

Gary Resnick: 1999
Fran DeLeo: 2000-2001

Ron Swenson: 2004-2005
Bob DiCorpo: 2006-2007
Bill Collins: 2008-2009
Tom Gentz: 2010-2011
Ralph Hadley: 2012-2013

TYP356ne sponsors a number of social, technical and driving events each year. We encourage our members to participate, individually, and as a group, in other Porsche and vintage sports car events held throughout New England as well as National Porsche events. Each January, the club holds its gala Winter Celebration and Business Meeting, and we offer a number of different motoring and socializing events throughout the driving season. Check our Schedule of Events on the website to see our calendar of upcoming events. We publish a monthly club bulletin, “Tub Times”, to keep members abreast of club happenings as well as maintaining the TYP356ne.org website.

Membership in Typ 356 Northeast is open to anyone who appreciates the Porsche Type 356. Membership in the 356 Registry or the Porsche Club of America is not necessary and you do not need to be a 356 owner. Check out the various pages (scheduled events, members cars etc.) of our web site.
